This last week had been one with a little bit of mopeyness and a lot of recovery. Not only am I feeling a bit under the weather (sore throat, stuffy nose) but my hips and quads have been extra sore since the Orcas 25k.
I didn’t workout until Friday, having flown home Thursday night to make sure I was around for some fun weekend activities.
Friday started off in the best way possible, a workout at 6am with my husband, no I’m not being sarcastic!
Minus the torn hands! I don’t have hand stand push-ups and 95# was too heavy, so I went with 65#. This was a tough 20 minutes, but great for me to finally get moving again.
The work day was stressful so it felt really good to pick my husband up from work a little early and head to another gym. This time we were going to CrossFit Deliverance for their grand opening.
Our friends and now former coaches have opened a new crossfit gym in the UDistrict and we went over to support them. Because my hands were in pretty bad shape I didn’t participate in their first WOD, but I did film it and got some great footage, I’m excited to put it together and share.
Saturday morning I was ready for another great workout, and Seth gave us a deck of cards WOD that didn’t disappoint.
As a team of 9 we were to complete every exercise that popped up. This took us around 28 minutes, only resting to cheer on anyone who was finishing up a movement. 40 burpees were killer!
This wasn’t the last of our crossfit fun though, since Seth and Melinda were hosting a bowling night at The Garage. We have not been able to attend all of the happy hours they thrown so far, but this time we were finally free! It was really fun to hang out with our crossfit friends outside of the box.
I enjoy the community that comes with joining a great crossfit gym. From cheering each other on during workouts, to celebrating new business ventures, to getting drinks and discussing the ins and outs of our sport, it feels so nice to have a connection with some very different people who all come together just to workout.
Do you belong to a fun community? Do you attend outings with people you workout with? We had a blast, and look forward to the next one!

That is a cool looking set up. Crossfit is popping up everywhere here in Seattle. I have to ask, how do you afford to do it? I am really interested in the sport of Crossfit but it is hard for me to justify the $…

Yeah there are a ton of places in Seattle now! We have made it a priority and justify it by breaking down the cost as per class. We pay a total of about $290 for my husband and I to go, that breaks down to 145 per person, John goes about 20 times a month- which makes it about $7.25 a class. My membership varies quite a bit, but I’d say mine breaks down to about $12 a class. When we look at it that way, and all that we get out of it, it’s very much worth it. In no other situation will you have the variety of workouts that we do (without having to make them up ourselves), the watchful eye of a coach on us as we do it, plus the camaraderie of our new friends all in one place. You can hire a personal trainer to do some of this and to be way more tailored to you, but that would be more expensive and not a thing that’s maintained on a regular basis for a long period of time. 2 years in and we still love it and we’re still gaining a lot of strength and learning new things about ourselves!

Thanks for the breakdown Meg…that really does make it seem more reasonable! I have a sit down meeting with my wife coming up soon (yes we do schedule those, best way to stay on track with finances) I may have to crunch some numbers and change things up!

Those sit downs are so important! We schedule ours randomly (a text saying, babe! sit-down when I get back from CA, mark it down!) and talk about the state of the house, the dog, outside family stuff, and finances. It’s so good to check in with each other and just have that opportunity to address anything. We’re both pretty good communicators so it’s usually a refreshing experience.

And here I thought Mel and I were the only couple who does such a thing! I have to admit I find it refreshing as well….
