I know that this has gone viral, and it’s pretty much the best thing on the internet right now:
I mean, seriously, how great is Kid President? He touches on something that is important to me and what I do with my life, creating. I work in an industry that makes ideas into television. I helped make something that, over this last weekend, reached as far as Saturday Night Live:
If you fast forward to 2:20, a show I worked on last year is mentioned.
Yet, that show is not my proudest achievement. I actually have a hard time having my name on it because “stabby bitches”, as I like to call it in-house, is not inspirational. It’s not positive and while hilarious when a fake Arianna Huffington is referring to it in a skit, it’s actually harmful to the world. I think I helped create something that perpetuates a negative stereotype of women. And I’m done with that.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve decided to quit my job and pursue a new path in creating my own media consulting business. It is my goal to create, and help others create videos and media that will make the world awesome.
I’m going to start with local businesses; specifically CrossFit gyms, as I have a client who is just opening a new one in the U District. Creating something original is hard work and it can be frustrating at times; but if you open yourself up to ideas, let the creativity flow and then pin it down to make something tangible, you’ll find amazing fulfillment.
I know that I’m starting on my journey to create some stuff that will make the world awesome, how about you?
Some great places to start include:
30 Days of Creativity
In the month of June you create something new everyday, there is a calendar with prompts if you want to use them, it’s a lot of fun, I did it in 2011, here’s one of my favorite creations:
“The world needs to stop being boring, yeah, you! Boring is easy… you’re gooder than that”- Kid President
Oh and one last thing!! This all reminds me of my friend Julie’s video that she made while hiking the PCT in 2011, check her out:
